Program Agenda
July 27, 2009
THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM: July 27, Our speaker is Master Trooper Darryl Bailey of NC Highway Patrol. He'll speak on Second Amendment rights and gun safety.
July 20: Meeting Highlights:
The July 20 meeting was attended by 13 members at the Chamber meeting room. Guests were Tiffany Ervin of Hendersonville Rotary Club, Brette Powell, Western NC Outstanding Teen, our guest speaker, and Natalie, granddaughter of the Crandalls.
After Tiffany Ervin led the club singing “God Bless America”, President Ann Crandall gave the thought for the day. 40 years ago, Neil Armstrong descended from the lunar module and declared from the moon, “That's the one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” She reminded the club that the guest speaker for this week would be Master Trooper Darryl Bailey from NC Highway Patrol, and talk about 2nd Amendment Rights and Gun Safety. Our district governor will be visiting our club on August 17.
Tiffany Ervin then introduced Brette Powell, our speaker.
Brette Powell first talked about what the teens are facing today, such as dropping out of school, drugs, peer pressure, suiside and others. She wanted to make a difference by spreading positive influence such as empathy and compassion. Her theme is “Take A Walk In their Shoes.” She wanted to apply spontaneous compassion by sharing a smile and other ways. Through the shareing of spontaneous compassion, we can all make a difference in people's lives. She has started a 503(c)(3) non-profit organization to raise funds to put books and compassion reward treasure chest in all 1st grade classrooms through out western NC.
Sgt. At Arms Highlights: Harry Burnett collected Happy dollars for Polio+ to honor our speaker and guests. Birthday, sad and DA dollars were collected. The 50-50 pot of $16 was won by Ed Kan.
